RVC Professor Awarded Grant to Preserve Rockford Education Desegregation Stories

Dr. Mathew Oakes has been awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Grant for a two-year oral history, archival, and instructional project on the legal and community history of desegregation and education in Rockford. The $60,000 grant will fund his project, “Chronicles of Change: Archiving Stories of Desegregation in Rockford Public Schools, 1989-2002.”

Black History Month Kickoff & Opening Ceremonies

RVC kicked off Black History Month last Friday, February 3, with an Ebony Breakfast and Opening Ceremonies. The program included "Lift Every Voice and Sing," which reminds Black Americans that each generation has had to lift their voices, along with those within their community, to demand and protect their human rights. RVC Graduates Filmmakers And Prepares For Program Expansion

On Saturday, Feb. 4, 15 students will celebrate the completion of the Illinois Film Office (IFO) Film/TV Workforce Training Program at Rock Valley College. This specialized training program was a joint effort between RVC, the IFO, and the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity.


Improving Safety At RVC

Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) is one of the newest departments at RVC. The department was created just before the fall 2022 semester and will oversee all emergency management aspects for the college, as well as OSHA compliance, NFPA, ANSI, and several others for compliance, safety training, event action planning, property damage incidents, and personal injury incidents.
