Starlight Earns Five Lou Awards For Excellence In Theatre

Congratulations to Rock Valley College Starlight Theatre for receiving five Lou Awards for excellence in theatre. The Lou Awards celebrate community and college theatre in the north and northwest suburbs of Chicago. Starlight was nominated for a total of 25 awards in nine categories.

2022 Lou Awards for Starlight Theatre include:

  • Best Director – Christopher D. Brady – The Little Mermaid
  • Best Musical Director – Jodi Lynn Beach – The Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder
  • Best Scene Design – Carmen Turner – The Little Mermaid
  • Best Actor – Malachi Goldsmith – Dreamgirls
  • Best Supporting Actress – Laura Lydia Paruzynski - The Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder

“It's an honor, really, to be recognized this way at all for the work we do, actors and staff alike; we certainly don't do the work for the recognition, but it's wonderful regardless,” said Starlight’s Producing Artistic Director Christopher D. Brady (pictured). “It's recognition for the artistry of the casts, teams, crews, and staff here at Starlight and RVC as a whole, as none of the product is the culmination of one person alone. Truly, this validates our Starlight motto; The art is in the work."

A Lou recommendation is given to a production when, after the opening night of its run, at least one element of the show was deemed excellent by the opening night judges of the Lou Awards Nominating Committee. If a production received a nod from the nominating committee, additional members of the Lou board attend the production. A Lou Award is then chosen by their board after finalists are revealed.

Each summer Starlight Theatre produces four mainstage musicals in addition to a Starlittle production designed to introduce young children to live theatre. In the last five years, Starlight has expanded its season into the fall semester to include Starlight Shakes, a pay-what-you-think-its-worth production of a work of William Shakespeare, and Winter Traditions, a holiday-themed show for the entire family.

This fall, join Starlight for a new tradition as they present the cult classic, The Rock Horror Show opening on Oct. 20 and running through Nov. 5.
