RVC Music Festival to Celebrate Musical Theatre for Music in our Schools Month

In celebration of Music in Our Schools Month, Rock Valley College is thrilled to announce the launch of the RVC Music Festival, an annual event dedicated to exploring the power and diversity of music.

 

RVC Music Festival

RVC Music Festival is a FREE, two-day event held on March 28-29, 2025.

Each March, the festival will spotlight a different musical style or tradition, providing students, faculty, and community members with an immersive musical experience. For its inaugural year, the festival will shine a spotlight on Musical Theatre—a dynamic art form that blends music, movement, and storytelling.

“We want to create a space for creativity, connection, and collaboration,” said RVC Music Director Christopher Joyner. “This festival is about bringing people together through the shared experience of music and storytelling.”

The two-day festival, held on March 28-29, will offer participants a hands-on introduction to Musical Theatre performance. Attendees will explore the essentials of combining singing, acting, and choreography, with a special emphasis on storytelling. Musical Theatre songs are crafted to advance a plot or reveal character emotions, making every note and movement essential.

Workshops will focus on vocal styles, diction, projection, and dynamic vocal techniques, equipping participants with the tools to bring songs to life on stage. The festival will culminate in a collaborative performance, where all attendees will take part in a showcase, demonstrating the skills they’ve learned and celebrating Musical Theatre.

Saturday, March 29: 2:30 PM - This event is FREE and open to the public.

The workshop and performance events will be held at Rock Valley College main campus CLII 222 & 229, ERC PAR
