The 2022-2023 Business Department Merit Awards were presented to:

  • Nicole Bredeson (Accounting)
  • Jordan Miller (Accounting)
  • Geraldine Jimenez-Cuellar (Business Administration)

To be eligible for the awards, students need to have a 3.0 or greater cumulative grade point average, have a strong performance in their courses, and be graduating with an Associate in Applied Science Degree in the discipline.

In addition to all of that, "The students selected for these awards need to demonstrate a passion for their field of study and a commitment to and positive attitude toward their program," explained Steve Wong, Professor of Business at Rock Valley College.

Wong presented the Business Administration Merit Award to Geraldine Jimeniz-Cuellar.

“Geraldine is a tremendous student. She has been in a number of my classes, and I’m proud to say that her achievement over the years has been outstanding,” said Wong.

RVC Business Professor, Jim Brun, presented the Accounting Merit Awards to Jordan Miller and Nicole Bredeson.

“I commend both of you because, predominantly, we've had many independent study courses, and you have not faltered in those classes. You have continued to shoulder responsibility; your timeliness, your accuracy, reliability, and your interactions are commendable,” said Brun.

He continued, “You have always shown yourself to be involved, so I know you took your classes seriously and had a passion for accounting. I applaud you -- you are certainly an asset to the accounting profession.”

In recognition of their accomplishments, the names of the students will be added to the Merit Award Plaque outside the Business Division office located on the second floor of the Woodward Technology Center on RVC’s Main Campus. Congratulations to Nicole, Jordan, and Geraldine for your accomplishments.
