Now, her commitment is being honored across the state.

Milana, who serves as Program Manager for Student Employment and Veterans Affairs at RVC, was recently named one of the 25 Illinois Women Veteran Leaders of 2025 by the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs. This award highlights those who exhibit exceptional leadership, service, and lasting impact both during and after their military careers. The honorees were celebrated at a luncheon earlier this year.

A proud U.S. Army veteran, Milana served on active duty from 1989 to 1994 and remained in the reserves until 1997. Her time in the military shaped a sense of resilience purpose that she has carried into her work at Rock Valley College. She advises the Veterans Club and works passionately to make sure student veterans feel recognized, supported, and empowered to succeed.

“Milana’s resilience in overcoming the challenges she faced as a woman in the military has made her a trailblazer and role model for others,” said Ryan Russell, Trade Grant Recruiter/Program Specialist and award nominator. “Her unwavering belief in every individual’s potential continues to inspire and uplift those around her. Milana is a dedicated and impactful leader, fully committed to serving veterans and fostering success throughout the community.”

Milana’s commitment extends beyond campus. She actively supports women veterans through involvement with the National Women Veterans United Rockford Chapter, serves on the Vet Center Advisory Board, and is a proud member of VFW Ross Pearson Post 5149. She also appeared in Take Your Own Notes, a moving short film that shares the real stories of women veterans, shining a light on their sacrifices and strength.

With a degree in Psychology from Northern Illinois University and a Master’s in Organizational Leadership from Judson University, she exemplifies a strong commitment to growth and leadership—one that continues to inspire those around her.

From helping students find jobs to advocating for equity and mentoring future leaders, Milana lives her values every day with heart, courage, and dedication.
