Steve Gadamowitz has come full circle with his training at RVC. As a Highway Construction Careers Training Program (HCCTP) Class of 2019 graduate, he has returned to RVC’s Main Campus as a Laborer’s Local 32 apprentice. Their current project is working on completing the landscaping needs outside of the ERC. Steve gained entry into Local 32 a month after graduating from the Spring 2021 HCCTP class; he is now in the second year of his three-year apprenticeship. 

HCCTP is an Apprenticeship Readiness Program that aims to help women, underrepresented, and socioeconomically disadvantaged individuals gain acceptance into the construction trades. During the 14 week program, students engage in 450 hours of skilled-trades preparation and apprenticeship readiness training with the goal of applying for and obtaining local union apprenticeship opportunities.

“The work we do here is rewarding and impactful for our student body”, explained HCCTP Coordinator Dawson Ingram. “HCCTP participants are proud to complete their training at Rock Valley College, and I am very proud to see them return as union workers achieving their career dreams.”

If you see Steve on the front steps of ERC, say “Hello.” He’s proudly wearing the USA-made boots he received in HCCTP—they’re now dirty but durable!
