RVC Professor Awarded Grant to Preserve Rockford Education Desegregation Stories
Dr. Mathew Oakes has been awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Grant for a two-year oral history, archival, and instructional project on the legal and community history of desegregation and education in Rockford. The $60,000 grant will fund his project, “Chronicles of Change: Archiving Stories of Desegregation in Rockford Public Schools, 1989-2002.”

The following students have earned recognition on Rock Valley College's Spring 2022 President's and Dean's Lists. Students must have taken at least 12 credit hours during the semester to qualify for the President's or Dean's lists.

Transplant Survivor Plans To Pay It Forward
For one student, a life-changing and life-saving medical procedure helped her pick her major as well as where to start her education. In 2011, Abbi Penning received a kidney transplant. Because of her relationship with the nurse who served as her transplant coordinator, Abbi decided that pediatric nursing would be her career path. She knew she wanted to use her experience to help children like her.
