2022 RVC Banned Book Week

Members of RVC's Promoting an Inclusive Community Committee are excited to host a number of events to honor National Banned Book Week, Sept. 19 - 22.

RVC's Estelle M. Black Library (located in the Educational Resource Center) will proudly display banned books as well as an interactive poster display. Are you unsure of what books have been banned? The RVC Library has you covered! They will have lists available.

On Monday, Sept. 19, from noon - 1 p.m. in the Educational Resource Center lobby, PAIC will host a Panel Discussion on Banned Books. The panelists include:

  • Dr. Mathew Oakes, RVC English Faculty
  • Keith Barnes, RVC Vice President of Equity & Inclusion
  • Dr. Michelle Rotert, RVC Philosophy Faculty
  • Anna Wandtke, RVC Perkins Grant Coordinator

Following the panel discussion, there will be a viewing of the movie, The Hate You Give, at 3 p.m. in the Student Center Room 1200. Popcorn and refreshments will be served. Participants can sign up to win a copy of the book.

On Thursday, Sept. 22, from 6 - 7 p.m. join members of PAIC for a virtual discussion of the book, Read Dangerously: The Subversive Power of Literature in Troubled Times by Azar Nafisi.

Students, employees, and community members are welcome to participate in Banned Book Week activities and events.

As a part of Banned Books Week activities, the PAIC committee is encouraging employees to create office or door displays. Please consider completing a template and displaying it in your office where it is visible to others.
