About the Program
Driving a truck requires a high level of responsibility and safety awareness. We provide both classroom presentations and hands-on experience to ensure that students are well-prepared for the job an entry-level position. The class leads to a Class A Commercial Driver's License, which is a requirement for driving certain types of commercial vehicles.
Admission Requirements
Students must be 18 years or older, have a valid state of Illinois Driver's License, and be able to pass the DOT physical and drug screen.

Pathways in Truck Driver Training
The course is 200 hours total, Monday through Friday.
At the end of the training the student will be accompanied by their RVC Instructor Specialist and provided the RVC tractor-trailer that the student has trained on in order to take the CDL-A test with the Illinois Secretary of State.
Rock Valley College Truck Driver Training Tuition: $5,100 (now including the DOT physical and drug screen)
Program costs that are not included in the tuition:
- Required- $20 for Copy of “For Court Purposes” Motor Vehicle Record from Illinois Secretary of State
- Required- $50 for CDL-A Permit Test at Illinois Secretary of State
- Optional- $88.25 for Fingerprinting and Background check through TSA for HAZMAT endorsement
Driver improvements programs are designed for drivers that either have a valid CDL-A and would like to improve their skills or for a driver that has held a CDL-A in the past and is needing to prepare and improve skills to take the CDL-A exam test with the Illinois Secretary of State.
To participate in refresher course, students must have:
- A valid CDL-A and a current DOT physical certificate OR
- Proof of a past CDL-A Possession and a current valid Illinois Driver’s License, a valid CDL-A Permit, and a current DOT physical certificate

Prerequisite training for those seeking to apply for a HAZMAT endorsement for their current driver’s license. To obtain the endorsement, students will need to complete the training and a federal background check (not included in the training) before going to the Secretary of State where they need to pass the test for their endorsement.
Trainings are held once a month and cost $95. Students must sign-up in advance and bring a valid Illinois Driver’s License.
