About the Program
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) play a crucial role in the response to medical emergencies, and their training can make a significant difference in the outcomes of those emergencies.
This course is designed to train police, fire, rescue personnel and persons interested in the techniques of prehospital emergency care. The curriculum, developed by the U.S. Department of Transportation, prepares students for the National Emergency Medical Technician-Basic certification examination.
Admission Requirements
Here are the prerequisites for entry into the program:
- 18 years old
- High school diploma or GED
- 20/20 vision with correction
- Normal hearing with correction
- Sound physique, not possessing any infirmity of body or mind, that might render you unfit to perform duties
- Good physical stamina, endurance, and body condition that would not be adversely affected by lifting, carrying, and balancing patients in excess of 125 pounds (250 pounds with assistance)
- Sound mobility, including: sitting, standing, walking, running, climbing, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, crawling and twisting
- Significant reading and computer skills
- Participatory effort by the EMT candidate
Students are required to pass written, computer and practical skills examinations and participate in ambulance, hospital and clinical experiences to become eligible to sit for the National Registry examination.
