Program Pathways

Students should meet with an Academic Advisor to develop a clear pathway leading to a seamless transfer experience or transition to the workforce. For additional possibilities that may require an advanced degree or certification, make an appointment with an Academic Advisor.

If you’ve ever thought about becoming a teacher, or you enjoy helping others learn, grow, and succeed, the Male Teacher Pathway (MTP) Program at Rock Valley College is an incredible opportunity to explore that path with support, guidance, and community behind you.

Teaching is more than a career—it’s a chance to make a real difference. Today’s classrooms need educators who reflect the communities they serve, bring diverse perspectives, and understand the lived experiences of their students. Your voice, your story, and your leadership matter.

Why the Male Teacher Pathway Program?
You don’t have to figure it out alone. MTP connects you with mentors, advisors, and a supportive cohort of students who are also interested in education. Support every step of the way. From academic and transfer advising to leadership development and mentorship, MTP is designed to help you stay on track and succeed.

A clear path forward. The program helps you prepare for transfer into a four-year teacher preparation program in Illinois and understand what it takes to become a licensed educator.

Make an impact close to home. Many MTP students are passionate about giving back and making a difference in their own communities - especially in schools where teachers are needed most.

Your interest is enough to start. You don’t need to have everything figured out yet. If education is something you’re curious about, this program helps you explore it with purpose.

Who Should Consider MTP?
Students who:

  • Are interested in teaching, education, or working with youth
  • Want to make a positive impact in their community
  • Are first-generation, underserved, or from historically underrepresented backgrounds

If this sounds like you, the Male Teacher Pathway Program could be the first step toward a meaningful and rewarding future. Reach out to William Siaw to learn more at W.Siaw@rockvalleycollege.edu or (815) 921-2195.

Education is a popular major at RVC. Many graduates transfer to four-year colleges and universities. For sample transfer guides to a variety of colleges and universities, please visit RVC Academic Advising.
