The Rock Valley College men's basketball team is heading to the NJCAA national tournament for the first time since 2001 and only the second time in the 47 year history of the program.
Now some of the people who got them there are collecting post-season awards.
Brandon Schwebke has been named first team all-conference for the N4C (North Central Community College Conference) after finishing as the team's leading rebounder (8.6 per game) and second leading scorer (15.9 points per game). He also averaged close to three three-point field goals per game while shooting 36.5% from beyond the arc.
The Golden Eagles leading scorer, Blake McElroy (16.3 points per game), has been named second team all-conference. McElroy was twice named Player of the Week for NJCAA Region IV.
RVC head coach Craig Doty was named Coach of the Year for Region IV after leading the Golden Eagles to an 18-14 regular season record (7-7 in conference play) and a regional championship in his first season as head coach at RVC.
RVC will play their first game at the NJCAA tournament on Thursday, March 14 at 1:00 p.m. against MassBay C.C. (Wellesley Hills, MA). The NJCAA men's tournament will be played in Loch Sheldrake, New York.
