Community Band
(Adult) Community band provides an opportunity for the individual to continue with their instrumental development through performing a variety of musical styles in the concert band setting. Community Chamber Orchestra
(Adult) This class is open to instrumentalists of intermediate and above abilities who are able to read music. Music from various periods and styles will be studied and performed in concerts. Bring your instrument to the first class.

Community Jazz Ensemble
(Adult) Open to jazz band instrumentalists who enjoy a wide variety of jazz styles. Music performed will be jazz band instrumentation. Performances with the ensemble will include concerts at Rock Valley College as well as other community concerts. New members should contact the instructor prior to first rehearsal. Bagpipes 101
(HS-Adult) This is your chance to learn Scottish Highland Bagpipes or Highland Drumming on Snare, Tenor, and Bass Drums. Experience not necessary. Ages 14 and older welcome. Small group instruction provided by members of the City of Rockford Pipe Band. Bagpipe students begin instruction on chanters, and drumming students begin instruction on drum pads. Information on materials needed provided in class.

(Adult) The Rock Valley Master Chorale is a choir of dedicated singers of all ages who enjoy learning concert repertoire that is both challenging and enriching. We bring music of the highest level to the community through public concerts, and share our talents in presenting outreach performance that serve the wider community. Old Towne Band
(Adult) This class specializes in performing turn-of-the century music including circus, marches, novelties, ragtime, Dixieland, vaudeville, overtures, etc. The band presents a formal concert each semester and performs at various community events. NOTE: Class size is limited; new members should check with the instructor at the first class meeting for any openings. PREREQUISITE: Ability to play a band instrument.

Beginning Guitar for Adults
(Adults) Learn to play tons of songs: folk, pop and classical, in numerous keys, using a variety of picking patterns. Absolutely no previous experience is necessary. The only requirement is to bring yourself and an acoustic guitar to the first class. Join us for fun and camaraderie. You will learn a variety of techniques to add interest and excitement to your guitar playing, including how to read tablature, bass runs, hammers, slides, pull-offs, new picking patterns and additional styles of music, such as the blues. How to Play Piano by Ear
(Ages 13 & Up) Learn one of music’s deepest mysteries: how to play songs without relying on music. A very practical presentation of music theory that includes predicting chord progressions, learning from recordings, and transposing all expressed in everyday language. This is an ideal follow-up to the “Instant Piano” class and is open to anyone who has a basic understanding of chords on any instrument. Expand your musical horizons, and free yourself from sheet-music dependence, and be the life of the party! Prior experience with chords recommended. Materials fee of $29.00 for the How to Play Piano by Ear Book and Practice CD will be collected in class by the instructor.

• How to determine when chords change
• How to predict the chord progression
