Before You See An Advisor

Here are some things to consider before your advising visit:

  1. For new students: Review the Getting Started Steps

  2. For current students: Review the remaining items below.

  3. ACT, placement test, or proof of transfer credit are required before you can register for classes. If you took the ACT’s within the past 3 years, you can request a copy of your high school transcripts and the scores will be on the back. If you need to take the placement test, please call the testing Center at (815) 921-2380.

  4. Please be prepared to discuss career and degree ideas and academic goals.

  5. Please be specific when identifying your goals. For example, if you plan to transfer to a 4-year school or if you plan on taking classes to better your skills at work.

  6.  If you are looking for information on transfer degrees and related courses (AA, AS, IAI), please review our planning guides. It is very important that you indicate whether you are transferring into or out of RVC.

  7. If you are checking on open/closed classes, please check RVC Online Services.

  8. Check out the course catalog for course descriptions and pre-requisite information.

  9. Look through the class schedule and try to work on a schedule while you wait.

  10. If you are looking to have your RVC transcripts sent to another school, you need to go to Records and Registration on the top floor of the Student Center.

  11. To get information on how to get started in the health careers, (LPN, RN, Dental Hygiene, Surgical Technology, etc.) call the Allied Health division at (815) 921-3200.

  12. To see what to take with the Reading classes, please review Reading options list.

  13. For information on changing or exploring your career, please check with the Career Services, Advising and Placement, which is located on the 2nd floor of the Student Center.

  14. For information on grants, scholarships, Veteran’s Services, or Work Study positions, please check with the Financial Aid Office, which is located on the 2nd floor of the Student Center.

We are asking for your cooperation with the things on this list with the hope that it will speed the waiting process along. We also realize that each student has a different situation, and that some people may take a little bit longer than others. Hopefully, with your cooperation and your patience, we can make this a pleasant experience for everyone.
